You don’t see many Campagnolo-equipped cyclocross bikes at Nationals or even at local races, but on the third day of the 2016 USA Cyclocross National Championships, Tanya Bettis of Sport Systems 505 Cycling won the Master Women’s 45-49 race aboard one such bike.

Her Orbea Terra T105 is a carbon monocoque frame, featuring a tapered headtube and Orbea’s DCR (direct cable routing) system.  The frame is fitted with quick-release dropouts, a trait that is becoming less common on ‘cross bikes.

Displeased with the ergonomics and shift action of the SRAM doubletap shifters, Bettis’ chose to set her bike up with Campagnolo shifters instead. Campagnolo parts may be a rare sight on the ‘cross course, however the Italian brand does produce components and wheels for cyclocross bikes.

The Orbea is equipped with a one-by drivetrain, comprised of an eclectic mix of Sram, Raceface and Campagnolo components.  A pair of Campagnolo Centaur 10-speed shifters are hooked up to a set of TRP CX8.4 mini-v’s, and while the left shifter is held in restraint by a rubber band, the right shifter is laced to a Campagnolo Comp Triple 10-speed rear derailleur.  The Comp Triple runs a longer cage than than your average Campagnolo derailleur, allowing Bettis the option for a wider range cassette.  The remainder of the drivetrain is composed of a Sram S950 crankset and a 38t Raceface narrow wide chainring.

Looking to add some Campagnolo flare to your own ‘cross bike but aren’t ready to invest in an entire groupo?  Check out our tech feature on how to form a happy marriage between Shimano and Campagnolo drivetrain components.

The intriguing build continues with mismatched carbon tubular wheels. The rear is a Zipp 303 Firecrest tubular, and the front is an unmarked carbon tubular hoop laced to a Tune hub.  The wheels were wrapped in a set of Tufo Flexus Cubus 33 SG tubular tires, featuring a versatile tread pattern for gripping the Asheville dirt.
