Tire Review: Vittoria Cross XG Pro 34 Cyclocross Tire Review
Racing and Riding Impressions: With a similar tread to the Challenge Grifo, the Vittoria XG Pro has a universal tread pattern that’s been proven over the years. Although undersized compared to their listed measurements, the 34mm size offers a good volume for lower rolling resistance over bumpy terrain. The smaller knobs and gray rubber may wear a little faster than other clinchers on hardpack and pavement, but as a racing tire, the XG is a great choice. At 120 TPI, the tires are not as supple as the similarly-treaded Challenge tires but are more affordable. The XG is also available in a 32c width, but go with the 34mm for all but the smoothest courses. The XG Pro is one of the better all-around race tires, and as with Challenge, you can train on this tire and race on Vittoria’s tubular version.
