There was a lot of racing over the weekend in the States and Europe. By far, the most exciting race we saw in Europe was the women’s race in Essen.
While many look forward to seeing the world’s best cyclocross racers battle on the sloppiest, heaviest courses in Europe, often it’s the faster, pack-filled events, whether its the 1996 World Championships or this weekend’s IJsboerke Ladies Trophy race in Essen that deliver the most late-race viewer excitement.
The final, dramatic photo finish isn’t the only reason it’s a must-watch. The chase group featuring Kaitie Antonneau rejoining the leaders, and the all-out battle for the lead with countless lead changes made for a memorable race.
