Cyclocross racing in April? Yes. In a major city like Zurich? Yes. With cyclocross pros racing? Yes. With racers jumping out of a van and running down stairs? Yes and yes.
The cyclocross-crazy folks behind the EKZ Cross Tour pulled off another amazing feat for the second year in a row with its Urban Cyclocross race in Zurich. The event built on last year’s successful debut, and attracted top cyclocross pros including Simon Zahner, Lucie Chainel and eventual winners Marcel Wildhaber and Jasmin Egger-Achermann.
The event is the first of two high-profile cyclocross races in the northern hemisphere in April, followed by next week’s Sea Otter Classic cyclocross race. Both offer creative non-traditional courses that take advantage of what’s available in the local environment.
