When American cyclocross pro Corey Coogan Cisek lines up for the first time this season in Europe, she’ll be flying the new colors of the VeloRevolution-Cyclocross Custom Elite Cyclocross Team and will have a teammate.
See the team’s official announcement below.
VeloRevolution-Cyclocross Custom is a joint-venture between Ireland’s Michelle Geoghegan and United States’ Corey Coogan Cisek.
Geoghegan currently resides in Oudenaarde, Belgium, and Coogan Cisek will live in Oudenaarde from mid-October to early January 2021. Coogan Cisek secured an exception to enter Belgium directly for competition despite the travel ban. The riders will compete in a full slate of Belgian races, as well as World Cups around the continent.
Geoghegan has spent many years cycling at the highest level on the road. She has represented Ireland many times, most notably at the World Cup level. Having been bitten by the cyclocross bug a few years ago, Geoghegan is now focused on cyclocross as her primary discipline. She has twice been a silver medalist at the Irish National Cyclocross Championships, including in 2020.
2020–2021 will be Coogan Cisek’s fourth season competing in Belgium. She brings a wealth of experience to the team, having raced many of Belgium’s most iconic crosses, as well as European World Cups. Also a freelance writer, Coogan Cisek writes the Cyclocross Magazine column “The Cyclocross Apprenticeship.” Look for these bimonthly rider diaries in Cyclocross Magazine starting in October.
We are delighted to have VeloRevolution onboard as our kit sponsor for the season. VeloRevolution is an Irish-based company, headed up by Aidan Crowley, a former Irish National Road Champion and international rider. VeloRevolution has emerged as a market leader in recent years thanks to its high-quality technical fabrics (made in Italy), high-end design and pro fit. VeloRevolution sells custom kits as well as its own brand designs across six countries. With items such as the “Belgian Bootie”, the “Storm Jacket”, the “Ice Thermal” and the “Pure Speed” suit ranges, we are sure to be racing fast, in style and comfort, whatever the harsh Belgian winter throws our way. Look forward to our October reveal of the team’s “Tiger-Orange” custom kit, whose design incorporates the Flanders lion.
The professional mechanics at Cyclocross Custom provide full-service race support at Belgian, Dutch and World Cup cyclocross events. At races, Cyclocross Custom cleans and maintains bikes, pits for riders, and accompanies them to the start and finish. Riders stay dry and warm-up under Cyclocross Custom tents in the elite warmup zone. Between events, the mechanics overhaul bikes as needed for optimum function and parts longevity.
“Belgian cyclocross weather is famously hard on the bike and the body and European professional riders receive the world’s best mechanical and soigneur support,” said Coogan Cisek. “Cyclocross Custom levels the playing field for Michelle and me. We trust them to take care of our bikes so we can focus on racing.”
Since tires are a bike’s contact with the ground, we are grateful for the opportunity to run Challenge tires. “Because of Challenge’s support, we know we will have the tires for whatever course conditions we face,” said Geoghegan.
For safety and style, VeloRevolution-Cyclocross Custom will use Lazer Z1 MIPS helmets and Bliz eyewear.
Additional team and personal sponsors/supporters include Adams of Tralee (Hyundai and Fiat), Adams of Glin (Peugeot), Mad Alchemy, Maplelag Resort, Red Geographics, Shimano, SockGuy, Triple C Coaching, TwoFish Unlimited, and WickWerks Chainrings.
