It’s always exciting to see ’cross spread, and we’re happy to see that USAC is putting an effort into making sure that it develops throughout the country, not just in the “classic ’cross” regions like New England and the Northwest.
Colorado Springs, Colorado – USA Cycling has announced the 2014 Cyclo-cross National Calendar (CXNC). The purpose of the CXNC is to recognize top domestic events and provide them with the opportunity to achieve UCI recognition. Those races that seek UCI inscription on the USA Cycling Pro Cyclo-cross Calendar (Pro CX) must first be a part of the CXNC for at least one year.
Four events make up this year’s CXNC, starting with the Florida CX National in Dade City, Florida, on Aug. 31. That will be followed by the Sept. 21 GP Clark Natwick in San Francisco, California, and the Nov. 1 VeloCX in Blaine, Minnesota. The 2014 calendar concludes Dec. 6-7 with the Ruts ‘N Guts in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Among the requirements for inclusion on the CXNC is an elite cash purse, as well as the agreement to submit race results to USA Cycling within 24 hours for proper rankings calculation.
We’ll be interested to see if the CXNC races bring Elite racers to farther-flung parts of the country, and if they manage to score UCI status next year. Make sure you’re subscribed to Issue 26 of Cyclocross Magazine for a story on Florida’s booming ’cross scene!
