2018/19 UCI Team Run-Down: Pidcock, Worst, Sweeck, Others Join New Teams

The UCI recently announced the 18 teams for the upcoming cyclocross season. Our latest #crossiscoming installment looks at some of the changes for the European UCI teams.

We previously reported on the rosters of the two North American UCI teams after team rosters for the upcoming cyclocross season were posted on the UCI website. Today, we take a look at new faces and places for the European-based teams.

Full team rosters for the 18 announced UCI teams are below. We also want to run through some of the team changes and moves that caught out eyes.

If you read through the list of teams, you will notice a TP Racing, which is, as the initials suggest, the new home of British phenom Tom Pidcock. Pidcock ended his contract with the Telenet Fidea Lions after one season of U23 racing with the vaunted Belgian team. Dan Tulett, who finished second to Pidcock at the 2017 Junior World Championships in Luxembourg also joins the team.

Both Pidcock and team manager Sven Nys were quoted in the team’s press release.

“I want to thank everyone at Telenet Fidea Lions for everything they have done for me last season.” “I gained a lot of valuable experience and achieved some good results.” However, when an opportunity for a British CX team came up, it was something I could not let go, “states Pidcock.

Sven Nys: “From the first talks we had with Tom, we knew how he wanted to build his career and we knew he’s a rider that’s wanted by WorldTour teams.” Over the past year, we’ve worked well together and we preferred to do that for another winter But when a team with this allure makes him an offer, we can agree to the collaboration with mutual respect. “

The ERA-Circus team that starred Laurens Sweeck and Annemarie Worst dissolved after the 2017/18 season, forcing several riders to find new homes. The biggest beneficiary was the Pauwels Sauzen – Vastgoedservice team that expanded its roster in a big way earlier this year. The team added Laurens Sweeck and his brother Diether. The team also signed Loes Sels and young Czech star Tomas Kopecky.

Worst went to the Steylaerts – 777 team that did not have UCI status last season. Worst joins Italian Alice Maria Arzuffi to form a strong 1-2 punch of young women riders. On the men’s side, the team brings back Gianni Vermeersch.

Marcel Meisen of Germany moved to Mathieu van der Poel’s Corendon-Circus team.

Michael Boros of the Czech Republic is the other rider in the top 20 of the UCI rankings who changes teams for the upcoming season. Boros moves from the Pauwels Sauzen – Vastgoedservice team to the Belgian team Kempense CXV.
