We’ve said it many times, but gravel means so many different things to different people, with different bikes, in different regions. Smooth center tread? File tread? Big knobs? Side knobs? 28c or 43c?

If you need some knobs to bite through the loose dirt and gravel, and perhaps want to leave the tire on for early cyclocross season races, Bontrager has a new tire for you.

The Trek company has taken one of its versatile knobby hybrid tire treads and upgraded it with a tubeless TLR bead. The result is the Bontrager LT2 TLR Team Issue tubeless tire. The tire also features Hard Case Lite casing, the company’s puncture protection underneath the tread.

The 32c version of tire is particular interesting if you’ve got limited tire clearance on your cyclocross or gravel bike, or have generous clearance on a long-reach brake road bike. Our 32c test tires measured under 30mm on a 17.5mm internal width rim, joining Panaracer, Challenge and Clement among others in offering some narrower gravel options.

On our scales, the 32c tire weighs 380g. We’re anxious to try the 38c version for the rougher courses and terrain. Both Team Editions widths retail for $59.99.

It’s worth noting that there’s a non-tubeless 38c version that’s $29.99 and a 26×1.5″ version that should be on everyone’ short list to race a 26″ wheel mountain bike in cyclocross.

See more photos of the tire in the gallery below. Stay tuned for full ride impressions.
