Speaking with Jingle Cross race director John Mehaan yesterday got us thinking about past Jingle Cross races and the course in Iowa City.
So we went poking around and found this video posted to YouTube by JP Brocket in November 2010 of that year’s final day Elite Men’s race. Back then it was known as Jingle Cross Rock, well on its way to the status it holds now as a UCI World Cup event.
As for the video itself, it is a highlight reel and shows many of the course’s iconic features and some prominent riders. The day’s race was won by Jamey Driscoll (Cannondale – Cyclocrossworld.com) while Todd Wells (Specialized) was second and Christopher Jones (Rapha Focus) was third. Driscoll actually won both days, as did Amanda Miller (Hudz-Subaru) in the Elite Women’s race. Back then Wells said that he had a “[s]olid weekend in Iowa with a 5th 7th and 5th. Now it’s time for the post race Jingle Cross party. Always a good time.” This year, as World Cup, we’re looking forward even more so to the racing and the party.
If you watch the video below through to the end, you can catch a glimpse of Meehan on the podium during the awards presentation.
Be sure to stay tuned for our interview with Meehan to find out what’s what with the newest World Cup race on the calendar.
