It’s the debate of the ages: should you be incorporating running into your cyclocross training program? We run during our races constantly: over the barriers, through the mud, across the beach, up the hill. For a pure cyclist with no running experience, that can be an overwhelming addition to a race.

Some of our top cyclocrossers did pretty darn well when switching to wider tires and suspension forks at mountain bike nationals a couple of weeks ago (their results are listed below.) Amy Dykema, a wonderful photographer, was there to capture the event with her camera and shared some of her favorite shots, which can be viewed in the gallery below.
It’s been a few weeks since Rumors and Rumblings, but things have been going on in the rumor mills around the ’cross world. There are races going on, ’cross racers showing their mettle and other ’crossers building their form day by day. So, where are things?
Even in the “off-season,” Georgia Gould is a force to be reckoned with. When we last checked in with her in our first Women’s Wednesday column, we learned that she’s been chasing a win in the Mountain Bike World Cup series, as well as the PROxct series. Recently, she finished in the top 15 at the Dalby Forest mountain bike race, and there’s still a lot of mountain bike racing to be done before the season is over and cyclocross begins. Lucky for us, Georgia had a few minutes to spare to talk to us about this season, her upcoming cyclocross season, and what it’s like to be a pro woman in cycling.
As the Giro d’Italia wraps up this weekend and the Tour of California wrapped up on Sunday you would think that the Pro Cyclocross news would be slowing down, but think again. Lars Boom has re-upped with Rabobank. The Tour of Belgium, a cross racer’s off-season paradise? Kevin Eeckhout of Sunweb-Revor retires at the ripe old age of 21. Amy Dombroski and Katie Compton head overseas for a little pre-season European dirt. Georgia Gould, Ms. Consistency? Todd Wells, best American on the dirt. In this week’s Working Man’s Edition we look back to Spencer Paxson, Jake Wells and head to a master’s working man Peter Webber.
Today marks the start of our new bi-weekly column, Women’s Wednesdays, where the focus shifts to matters specific to women in the sport. This column will be dedicated to all aspects of women’s racing, from coverage of pro women to women-specific bikes to talking frankly about how to get more women involved in cyclocross. We begin this week by hearing from a few of our favorite ladies of ‘cross, finding out what they’ve been up to in the off-season and seeing what they’re looking forward to in the Fall.
