The final round of the World Cup was yesterday at Hoogerheide, The Netherlands. With changes to the course and muddy conditions, it was sure to be a challenge for those racers that toed the start line and Bart Hazen was on hand to capture all the action.
Belgian Quentin Hermans edged out countryman Eli Iserbyt to win the final World Cup for the 2015/2016 season. Behind them, Frenchman Clement Russo was third. American Logan Owen finished the day in eighth place.
There are no foregone conclusions in cyclocross. But with the performance he put in today as well as those he’s shown since returning from injury, it seems the World Championships in Zolder may be van der Poel’s to loose.
Challenging conditions on the technical course saw riders running through the initial turns as they slipped and slid around, elbow-to-elbow. With the tight pack and no clear lines, that forced some riders into the pits as they passed it for the first time shortly after the start.
