A new twist to kick off the cyclocross season is coming to Chicagoland. Two-racer relays will allow teams to alternate hot laps and get some good fitness-pushing intensity work in a competitive environment. With a whole variety of different categories to choose from, it sounds like a great season-opener to us.
According to xXx Racing-AthletiCo race promoter Greg Heck, “This is the first year for the two-person tag team relay cyclocross race. We are billing the event as a great way to get the ‘cross racing legs tuned up for the season in a fun environment.” Heck compares the race to a hard interval workout in a race setting.
“The idea for the event is based on early season races I did while running high school cross country in Indiana,” said race promoter Greg Heck. “These events were known as hokum karems, and the races consisted of two-person teams alternating one-mile legs on a cross country course.”

Get your legs warmed up for the Chicago Cross Cup Series with xXx Racing-AthletiCo’s two-person tag team cyclocross race at beautiful Jackson Park in Chicago, IL, on Sunday, August 29th. Two riders, two bikes, two times the pain and two times the fun!
This inaugural tag team cyclocross race format will allow for two riders to race as a team, in an alternating lap format on a cyclocross course. Races will include Masters 30+, 40+/50+, Women’s Open, Juniors, Cat 4, Cat 1/2/3, and Co-Ed events ranging in length from 45 to 90 minutes. Look for details on xxxracing.org and chicrosscup.com
