DIEGEM, BELGIUM – In a hard fought duel with the Belgian champion, Katerina Nash (Luna) used her power on the hills to slip away from Sanne Cant (BKCP) in the final lap, entering the finishing straight with enough of a gap to neutralize Cant’s powerful sprint and take the win at Superprestige Gieten.

Lucie Chainel-Lefevre and Sabrina Stultiens, who had been part of the lead group before Nash and Cant shed them, came in for third and fourth, respectively. Ellen van Loy took fifth, with Gabby Day, Meredith Miller, Annie Last, Amy Dombroski and Joice Vanderbeken rounding out the top ten.
“I felt pretty good on the uphills,” said Nash, “so I figured this was my chance. I didn’t want to leave it for the sprint or the tough corners that were on the back of the course, so I attacked on the hill and was able to hold that for the finish.”
The American racers were pleased with their results, though as the week winds down, they’re feeling the Christmas week strain. Miller tweeted, “Seventh today in Diegem. Was hoping for a little better but I’m happy with it! Tired legs for sure!”
