ALTADENA, CALIFORNIA — Can you hear it? That’s the sound of cheers echoing around Southern California as the schedule for the 2012-13 SoCalCross Prestige Series has been announced.
Cyclocross competitors, supporters and fans will be thrilled to see that the series is back for it 7th season, bigger and better than ever. The tentative calendar is marked with 20 race days over 13 weekends from late September through early January, taking place from San Diego to San Luis Obispo. The SoCalCross Prestige Series kicks off at the end of the month, September 30th, in Costa Mesa, California.
Included are two weekends of top-level UCI-sanctioned racing — that’s four events paying world cycling points! Those mid-October events are the Spookycross Night Race in Pomona, California, followed the next day by the Krosstoberfest at the same site. Then on the first weekend of December it’s another UCI doubleheader with the Cross After Dark and CXLA races at Los Angeles State Historic Park.
Along with high-quality courses at comfortable venues throughout the region, CX enthusiasts can look forward to eco-sport festivals, health and wellness outreach, vendor expos, skills clinics, gourmet food trucks, live bands, fun non-competitive events as well as sightseeing rides for the entire family. We have some big things planned for the upcoming season; you need to be there!
Already boasting the largest social media presence of any cyclocross series in the nation, the SoCalCross Prestige Series will be increasing coverage for the upcoming season in both web and print formats. There is no more challenging style of racing than cyclocross, and its athletes and backers deserve the credit!
The SoCalCross Prestige Series is even giving enthusiasts a chance to shake off some rust and get ready for the new season with its socially oriented Happy Hour Tour, now taking place at numerous locations around the region. SoCalCross is pleased to welcome our partners for the Happy Hour Tour: Jenson USA, Rock N Road Cyclery, Cynergy Cycles, Velo Pasadena, Montrose Bike Shop, and Golden Saddle Cyclery. The tour resumes today at Cadence in Hermosa Beach. Riders looking for more hard-core prep can take advantage of the upcoming Fortune 700, a multi-stage training series. It begins September 16th with a Time Trial at the Rose Bowl, followed on September 23rd with a road race from the Rose Bowl to Red Box, and then concludes October 7th with a criterium the same day as the Cyclocross DTLA—Cyclovia!
