Scottish cyclocross is intriguing—for one thing, they have castles.

Martin Steele of Endura Ltd put together a video from a trip to the Isle of Mull for Cross at the Castle which, as you can see, isn’t your average race weekend. The events are held over two days in the grounds of Glengorm Castle, a Victorian country house on the north-western coast of the island, with views out over the Atlantic to both the Inner and Outer Hebrides.

Perched on the edge of Europe, the Isle of Mull can be hit by fierce winter storms and when race day arrived on Saturday the rain lashed down and the wind tore across the exposed section of the course. The ferries connecting the island to the mainland might have been cancelled for 24 hours, but two days of racing in some wild conditions went ahead.

As Steele explains, “Tobermory, the islands capital and base for most of the visiting racers, also features the islands only whiskey distillery. It would have been rude not to nip in for a dram…”
