After last year’s nearly undefeated season from Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon Circus), fans could be forgiven for thinking this year’s races would follow the same script now that the superstar is back.
Today’s 2019 UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Tabor proved that Van der Poel’s competitors have ripped up that script and are calling their own shots. Van der Poel, after a tragic week due to the death of his grandfather, found himself 20 seconds back and outside the top five after just three laps.
World Cup leader Eli Iserbyt (Pauwels Sauzen Bingoal) confirmed he’s up for the challenge of sharing equal star billing, while Lars van der Haar (Telenet Baloise Lions) continued his resurgent season. All three racers entered the final lap with a chance for victory.

Americans Max Judelson and Tyler Cloutier finished 44th and 45th, respectively.
