Before the unveiling of the great pinwheel on Sunday, Cyclocross Gullegem hosted a C2 race on Saturday in the Motherland of Cyclocross. Of note for the day was the presence of Wout van Aert (Jumbo – Visma) on the start line for the second race of his comeback tour.
In the Elite Women’s race, Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Alpecin – Fenix) made it a winning streak by winning her third-straight race. Yara Kastelijn (777) finished second and young Shirin van Anrooij (Cecemel – Aveve) took third.
Rebecca Fahringer (Kona Maxxis Shimano) finished just off the podium in 4th, Clara Honsinger (Team S&M CX) took 9th, Emily Werner (Amy D. Foundation) 16th, Siobhan Kelly (Black Dog Racing) 18th, Maria Larkin (Donkey Label Racing p/b FK Law) 19th, Rebecca Gross (Zero D Racing) 22nd, Corey Coogan Cisek (CCC Racing) 25th and Turner Ramsay (Alpha Bicycle – Groove Subaru) 27th.
Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin – Fenix) continued his winning roll with a win in the Elite Men’s race. Michael Vanthourenhout (Pauwels Sauzen – Bingoal) finished second and Corne van Kessel (Tormans CX Team) third. Van Aert finished just off the podium in fourth.
Curtis White (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) took 13th, Stephen Hyde (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) 15th, Brannan Fix (Alpha Bicycle – Groove Subaru) 19th and Max Judelson (Voler / Easton / HRS / Rock Lobster) 26th. \
