UCI cyclocross in the U.S. is a new beginning-of-September tradition, but it has been a regular thing in China for seven years now at the annual Qiansen Trophy.
This year’s Qiansen Trophy kicked off in Aohan Station north of Beijing on Sunday with the first of 2 UCI C1 races.
With UCI C1 points on the line and an expenses-paid trip to China, the Qiansen Trophy has historically drawn eclectic fields, with the Squid Squad, a young Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado, Ryan Trebon, Ellen Van Loy and retired Thijs Al among the riders who have made the international trip in past years.
North Americans at this year’s Qiansen Trophy include Rebecca Gross, Shannon Mallory, Ivy Pederson, Christine Vardaros, Katie Scott, Cody Cupp, Merwin Davis, Josh Direen, Ian McPherson, Nathaniel Vacura, Christian Norvold, Adam Saban, Brandon Melott and Daniel Vaughn
