While U.S. Mountain Bike Nationals took place in Colorado, the 2019 European XCO Championships took place across the pond in Brno, Czech Republic.
Throughout the UCI XCO World Cup series, Jolanda Neff (Switzerland) and Mathieu van der Poel (Netherlands) have been common podium finishers in both the Short Track and XCO races. At the Euro Champs, the two riders again came out on top.
Neff won the Elite Women’s race, finishing ahead of Yana Belomina (Ukraine) and Elisabeth Brandau (Germany). Eva Lechner (Italy) finished 8th and Nadja Heigl (Austria) 25th.
After an XCO race in Les Gets where he was a non-factor, Van der Poel bounced back to take the win in Brno. Florian Vogel (Switzerland) and Milan Vader (Netherlands) joined him on the podium. Gioele Bertolini, who recently announced he is not racing ’cross this year to focus on Tokyo 2020, finished 18th.
