There were plenty of storylines to add intrigue to Sunday’s Superprestige Ruddervoorde.
Thus far in the Elite Women’s Euro season, there has been a youth movement, with Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Corendon – Circus), Annemarie Worst (777), Yara Kastelijn (777) and Alice Maria Arzuffi (777) dominating the top podium step in the season’s first month.
Would it be a young rider again emerging on top, or could established riders like Sanne Cant (IKO – Beobank), Katie Compton (KFC Racing p/b Trek Knight) and Kaitie Keough (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) break up their party?
In the Elite Men’s race, well, there was the return of Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon – Circus) and his 26-race winning streak. Entering his season debut at Ruddervoorde, the last time Van der Poel had not won a race was a calendar year earlier at the 2018 Koppenbergcross.
