Although not officially a UCI race yet, the Junior Women’s Helen100 Trophy race Friday morning at the Trek CX Cup had that feel. Twenty-five women ages 15-18 took the start line to race for a prize purse equal to the one given to the Junior Men UCI category.
The Helen100 Trophy race at Trek was the first of 4 Wyman and her partners expect to sponsor this year after launching the program in December at Loenhout.
Friday’s race started with Bridget Tooley (Easton – Giant p/b Transitions LifeCare) and Kaia Schmid (New England Devo p/b Cadence Wear) quickly breaking off the front.
Tooley, who has turned heads on social media with her bike handling skills, brought her air show to Wisconsin on Friday, hopping over the planks each of the laps.
Tooley eventually went solo and rode in the rest of the way for a clean win in front of Helen Wyman and fans and riders out at Trek Headquarters early Friday.
Eleanor Dyas (JA King p/b Blue Ridge Cross) joined Schmid and the two battled for third, before Schmid got the best of the duel in the last lap.
