On Sunday at Diegem, Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon – Circus) had a little run-in with a wayward course marshall. That incident was really not his fault.

On Tuesday at the year-opening GP Sven Nys in Baal, Van der Poel had a little run-in with one of the Sven Nys Cycling Center wooden barriers. That … was definitely his fault.

Railing the slick corner as he always does, Van der Poel slid into the wood post and sent his handlebar and bike askew. A lap and a half later, he was already in the lead. As we wrote recently, Van der Poel is very good at bike racing.

Van der Poel went on to win by 34 seconds over Toon Aerts (Telenet Fidea Lions) and take over the DVV Trofee overall time omnium lead.
