Tire Review: Panaracer Cinder-X Cyclocross Tire Review
Racing and Riding Impressions: This is the big brother of the CrossBlaster. If you race mostly deep grass courses, the Cinder-X is not the tire for you. But if you ride and race your bike on a mixture of surfaces, this tire could be an ideal choice. Its versatile, durable tread provides grip and bite on most surfaces, and really shines on the trail; it cuts through loose surfaces and mud, yet leaves it all behind with its open design and slightly tapered knobs. It’s not the most supple tire, but the casing withstands rocks and abrasions well.
My only complaint with the tire is that when mounted on a typically narrow road rim, the large side knobs are angled such that you’ll likely never fully use them. It takes such an extreme lean to engage them that they don’t really provide added traction or control and, in grass, only add to the rolling resistance. But overall, the Cinder X is a great choice for rougher cyclocross riding.
