September 23, 2011 — The Rapha-Focus professional cyclocross team announces the addition of Julie Krasniak for the 2011-12 season. Ms. Krasniak will be the first woman on the Rapha-FOCUS cyclocross team, joining Jeremy Powers, Chris Jones and Zach McDonald.

The American ’cross season is in full swing with two full weekends and two Wednesday night extravaganzas completed, the European season is just getting underway and now the first USGP is here. It really is ’cross season. Sometimes I don’t believe it’s real. How can the best bike racing season, which we’ve been waiting so long for really be here already? Didn’t we just finish last season? Anyways, onward we go, there is a long winter coming up and lots of rumors to talk about. In this week’s edition: Euro ’Cross is back on TV, start looking for your live feeds, folks. Kevin Pauwels takes a big win for his new team in Erpe-Mere. Zdenek Stybar will be showing off the new Quick Step rainbow stripes in Stribro this weekend. Enrico Franzoi has found a home with the Guerciotti team, he lines up for the first time this weekend in Switzerland. Is it true that Pro ’crossers actually understand the worth of their equipment? At least Tom Meeusen does. Amy Dombroski heads back to her motherland for the season. With a venerable “who’s who” of ’cross lining up in Sun Prairie this weekend, is there really a favorite? As many of you know, Jesse Anthony has announced that after Gloucester’s race this year, he will be retiring from cyclocross to pursue road racing as his main sport. After the summer he’s had, we can’t say that we blame him, as he’s had some amazing finishes and wins, winning Nature Valley overall to name just one. But we will miss him in cyclocross. Colorado Springs, Colorado — The United States will once again host more top-level cyclocross races than any other nation in the world with 49 events slated for the 2011-12 United States International Cyclocross Calendar (USICX). The USICX, a new domestic cyclocross calendar comprised of top quality, UCI-inscripted events, begins this Saturday, Sept. 10 with the Nittany Lion Cross in Brenigsville, Pa.

Portland, OR — Even though it seems like summer only started a few weeks ago, the cyclo cross season is now rapidly approaching. The Knights of the Crusade have been feverishly working to line up race locations and dates that we think will make for the most kick butt season ever. Our website, www.crosscrusade.com is finally updated and the 2011 race schedule is posted. We will be visiting many of our long standing venues this year and at the same time have made some cool changes. The biggest of these changes is that we will be going to Bend for the Halloween Crusade weekend on Oct. 29/30. The City of Bend is throwing out a huge fuzzy welcome mat for us and is allowing us to race on the same course that was used for the 2009/2010 U.S. National Cyclocross Championships. Cross Crusade presenting sponsor, Deschutes Brewing Co. is throwing a huge party on Saturday the 29th in their warehouse. Which happens to sit just next to the race venue.

It seems like there is always a lot going on in the world of professional bike racing and bike racing in general. We are always prepping for a new season or in the midst of another season. There is almost never a break: ’cross season rolls into road season which rolls into mountain bike season which rolls right back into ’cross season. But it’s that time of year again where we are rolling back into ’cross season, which means more and more ’cross pro rumors and rumblings. Sven Nys has ended his mountain bike season early to prep for ’cross. Tim Johnson and Joshn Huseby are sticking it to the Open Duo Men in Breckenridge. Not only does the USGP come to Sun Prairie in September and nationals to Madison in January, but with 15 events on the schedule, the Wisconsin Cycling Association will be one of the largest series’ in the US.

We’ve heard, in past Women’s Wednesday interviews, from women who’ve said that finding sponsor money is harder, the payouts aren’t nearly as lucrative and being taken seriously in the sport is more of a challenge. Well, it’s finally happened! It was inevitable although it took quite a while! I’ve been completely transformed from a died in the wool roadie to an irrevocably addicted off road rider. I no longer crave hours of asphalt, instead I wake up in the morning thinking about single track climbs and rhythmic swooping descents.

It’s been a few weeks since Rumors and Rumblings, but things have been going on in the rumor mills around the ’cross world. There are races going on, ’cross racers showing their mettle and other ’crossers building their form day by day. So, where are things?

Adam Myerson is a bit of a cyclocross legend, especially on the east coast. Cyclocross Magazine publisher Andrew Yee distinctly recalls Myerson’s presence at his first race, and years later, he’s still a fixture in New England cyclocross and beyond. With an impressive set of palmares that come from 25 years of bike racing, Myerson is certainly an elite force to be reckoned with, even as some of his contemporaries abandon the Pro field for Masters races. Still, as Myerson (and his latest tattoo) will tell you, he lives by the motto “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop.”

For the past month and a half, I have lived and breathed cyclocross, as I took over as online editor for Cyclocross Magazine. And let me tell you, it is an extremely glamorous lifestyle.

Working in your pajamas is glamorous, right?

USADA Lisban Quintero announced today that Columbian athlete Lisban Quintero of New York has been sanctioned for “anabolic agents.” Quintero raced on the road but also competed in cyclocross, including racing for 47th behind Ryan Trebon at the 2009 Mercer Cup USGP race and 20th behind Valentin Scherz at the 2010 HPCX race. Quintero was quoted at Velonews as saying ” I really enjoy training. My father taught me that when it comes to training, quality is more important than quantity.”

Colorado Springs, Colo. (July 1, 2011) USADA announced today that Lisban Quintero of New York, New York, an athlete in the sport of Cycling, has tested positive for a prohibited substance and accepted a suspension for his doping offense.

Luke Keough is remarkably mature for his age, and rightly so: though he’s only 19 years old, he’s been racing for 15 of them and is extremely serious about what he does. That’s not to say that he doesn’t love horsing around with his teammates, weaving around on the road during recovery rides so he can hop into ditches on his road bike, eating ice cream as recovery food or spending an evening at the mall goofing off, but when he’s on the bike, he’s all business. And as he should be: even at 19, his list of palmares surpasses some seasoned pros: he’s the two-time National Champion for the 17-18 field, placed tenth in the 17-18 field at worlds in Italy, won the Elite race both days at Northhampton at Cycle-Smart International in 2010 and the list goes on.

We already reported on Belgian cyclocross superstar Bart Wellen’s plans to start his season in the US. Now, it appears that in addition to StarCrossed and the Rad Racing GP, Wellens and teammate Rob Peeters will be adding even more US cyclocross racing to their itineraries.
