INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA – St. Mary’s Child Center (SMCC) in Indianapolis feeds, educates and provides a loving environment for approximately 350 at-risk pre-school aged children. SMCC Cyclocross race organizer Dr. Frank Troiano loves cycling as much as helping kids and thought a race was the perfect way to fuse them together with a healthy family-oriented event. SMCC Cyclocross, the second stop in the Zipp OVCX series, takes place Sunday September 30th. Presented by the Troiano Family, Heroes Cycling Team and Speedway Wheelmen, the race is completely a fundraiser for SMCC. Details online at BikeReg.com.
Dr. Troiano says, “It’s my way of giving back to the community.” To compliment the festival atmosphere, he’s partnered with Triton Brewing Company, LA Fitness, Starbucks, Hammer Nutrition and others to provide plenty of swag. While supplies last, racers (21 and over) get a Triton Brewing pint glass and a fill-up at the micro-brewery adjacent to the venue. Lucky women racers will be treated to hand made scarves, each a work of art according to Dr. Troiano. There is rumbling of a Trash Talkin’ Throwdown, the best hecklers being awarded products from Kryptonite.
Also at SMCC Cyclocross you’ll see the OVCX Athlete’s of the Week riding on new Zipp carbon wheels. The wheelsets change hands each week as OVCX recognizes stand-out performances by a male and female athlete at the preceding race. Katie Arnold (Bob’s Red Mill) and Ian McShane (Red Zone Cycling) are the current recipients due to their performances at Huber’s Apple CX, and improvement over the previous season.
