Cyclocross Wheel Review: Williams Cyclocross Tubular Wheelset Review

Williams has brought to market a cyclocross specific tubular wheel set that is a strong performer yet durable enough for even the most aggressive Clydesdale. The wheels are built with stout 14 straight gauge spokes: 2-cross lacing on the front and 3-cross on the rear. The semi-aero, aluminum rim is robust, benefiting from a simple tubular cross section. The rims are completed with a brilliant white paint scheme, and their `cross-specific pedigree is emphasized by bold decals.

Charm City: Euros Wyman and Field Continue the European UCI Points Grab

Charm City in Baltimore, Maryland, has been hot and dry for the fast few years, which makes sense since as the second race weekend of the season, it’s still practically summertime. However, in keeping with the streak of bad weather on the East Coast for the past month, the race opened with a chilly, drizzling morning: perfect cyclocross weather. Racers and spectators alike complained about the cooler conditions, since this early in the season, the legwarmers are still buried in attics and basements. However, the cooler weather didn’t seem to hurt the Euro visitors, and Helen Wyman and Ian Field repeated their winning performances from last week at Nittany Lion Cross.

Fish Head Rolls Without Hooks in Kentucky

Louisville, Kentucky — “Opening Day” is magic. Whether it’s the start of baseball, cyclocross or even fishing season, “opening day” for grownups is like Christmas morning for a six-year-old. This year’s opening day for this year’s Zipp OVCX Cyclocross Tour is September 18 in Louisville, when middle-America’s most popular cyclocross series will likely be overrun by “fish heads”. Dubbed the “FishStiCX Cross,” the September 18 races take place at Louisville’s gorgeous and challenging Fisherman’s Park.

The Start Of The Season: Labor Day Cyclocross Race Report

The first race in Washington state is always one to attend, especially when it’s on Labor day weekend. Top riders, old friends, and a whole slew of cheers or jeers were happily reunited. Presented by Team Double check, the Labor Day cyclocross race was a success in drawing in riders from all over including Nick Weighall and David Richter. Raleigh’s new addition, Jenni Gaertner of Raleigh USA even came out to throw down with an impressive win since her contract at Raleighs Midsummers Race. Located at a new venue, “The Pit” (Lloyd Enterprises Retail Yard) in Milton, Washington. this gravel pit was converted into an abusive cross course that tested the skills and hydration of many.

A simple stroll through the Eurobike trade show in Friedrichshafen, Germany is impossible. Sherwin and Stevenson Smooth Suncadia Bumps to Steal Raleigh’s Midsummer Night Cyclocross Wins – Updated: Full Photo Gallery, Full Results

Cyclocross in July? Sure, it’s been done before in densely-populated New Jersey. But at a resort in Central Washington, a good 90 minutes from the closest major city? It seemed like a harebrained idea by the folks at Raleigh that had little chance at drawing out all but the most hard-core cyclocrossers.

A Bike Fit: Possibly One Of The Best Performance Bargains

Summer has just begun and the road and mountain bike seasons are in full swing, but for those of us dedicated to cyclocross, the offseason is ending and training programs for the fall are coming together as the cyclocross bike is tuned up. Admittedly, my cyclocross bike never gets a rest and I’m always looking to tweak it to gain performance. In order to gain more performance, should I get a pair of carbon wheels, new tires, a sealed cable set, ceramic bearing bottom bracket? I hope that by reading Cyclocross Magazine, you will gain some insight to where your hard earned dollars should go.

In The Saddle With Emma White, 13-14 National Champion

Pint-sized racer Emma White has a lot to be proud of. At 13-years-old, she’s already raced and beat a good portion of the women racing in the New England area. And when she races in just her age group, as she did at Nationals this year, she’s a serious force to be reckoned with. Now, she’s in the middle of an intense road season as a junior, but took some time out to answer some questions for us.

The Girl With The Cowbell Tattoo: Building a Base for Base

As May turned to June and as June is quickly disappearing, it’s occurred to me that the start of cyclocross season is actually not as far away as I thought. At first, this notion made me want to start jumping for joy. But then, it hit me just how unprepared I am for cyclocross season and just how big my “to do” list is. Like Mike Birner suggested in his piece on Building a Base in the Off-Season, I had made a list of what I needed to work on over the summer. And yeah, it’s a long list.

It’s Always a Good Day to Ride: Learning to Trust the Bike and Find Those Mad ’Cross Skillz

Like most riders who come to ’cross from the road, I sometimes struggle with technical skills.
I’ve learned a lot in the past five years. Yet I still grab too much brake, don’t trust my tires enough, and slow down too much before barriers and corners.
The remedy this season? Lots of practice in a park nearby and lots of mountain bike riding.

The Perfect Cyclocross Wheel – Tests and Reviews

It’s a popular belief that if you can upgrade only one part on your bike, it should be your wheels. There are a lot of good reasons behind this, as wheels have a profound impact on predictable handling, braking, acceleration and even coasting. In cyclocross use, we’d argue that most of these variables are exaggerated when compared to road cycling and that upgrading to a new set of wheels for cyclocross is even more justified.

´Cross Bike Review: Ibis Hakkalugi Carbon Cyclocross Bike

The Ibis Hakkalugi disappeared, went on a crash diet, got a new wardrobe, but is still waiting for your next cyclocross adventure. The two standout features of the bike have got to be the handjob rear cable hanger and “Phlegmish” paintjob. Ibis shows its mountain bike heritage in the frame’s geometry, with a slightly sloping top tube, bottom bracket a bit on the higher side (6.2cm drop) and slacker angles (71.5 head angle, 72 degree seat angle on our 55cm test bike).
