While we’ve tested Irwin’s 24mm-wide Kova XC 29er wheels and the new 24mm-wide AON GX 35 gravel wheels, the company also has new road-oriented options that it says would be ideal for dual-duty wheels when aerodynamics are a priority on the pavement.

Its $1,700 AON TLR 38 carbon wheelset is, as you might guess, 38mm deep, 18mm wide (internal) and is designed for tubeless use. The bead features hooks, with a bead-retaining lip along with rim’s center channel.

Irwin packs a lot into its package, with four sealed cartridge ceramic bearings in the rear hub and two up front. Straight-pull Sapim CX-Ray spokes lace it all together, with just 16 up front and the odd (in more ways than one) 21 out back.
