Minneapolis’ Erik Noren builds custom steel bikes under the name Peacock Groove. He chose the name because he likes the way a Peacock struts through a field, and like a Peacock, Noren strutted his stuff with his three stunning cyclocross bikes on display at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) 2012.
The three different cyclocross bikes Peacock Groove had on display represented the diversity of Noren’s builds and customers’ tastes: a carbon tubular-equipped race bike, a disc-equipped singlespeed, and a petite cyclocross bike with dramatically curved tubing and all the fittings for racks.
Noren utilizes a lot of Columbus tubing, and either TIG welds or brazes his creations. He purchases his lugs, but modifies them as to his needs, and a perfect example of this is the integrated front cable hanger added to the gold fork crown.
With the adverse conditions often found in Minneapolis, Peacock Groove does quite a bit of disc brakes, and his singlespeed and the petite blue and orange bike both featured Avid’s BB7 brake with 135mm spacing.
Like so many builders, Peacock Groove showcased his cyclocross bikes with Campagnolo Ergopower shifters and drivetrain.
