Now in its sixth year, the popular VeloCX cross race held on the grounds of the NSC Velodrome in Blaine, Minnesota has expanded into a two day, USA Cycling National Calendar event November 2nd & 3rd, 2013, becoming the only national level cycling event in Minnesota, aside from the Nature Valley Grand Prix road race.
For 2013, the race now encompassing two days, has upped the ante yet again and joined the USA Cycling National Calendar, and offers $6000 in Elite payouts. Working with the National Sports Center VeloCX promoters have gained access to a large new sections of land that include some challenging new off-cambers and hills. VeloCX is also offering equal payout to podiums in the elite men and women both days for 2013. “That is something we feel really good about,” said promoter Spencer Haugh. “We are really excited to continue to be able to bring this event up a notch every year, thanks to the NSC facility and staff VeloCX is looking to make a serious mark as a destination race for competitors nationwide”.
Indeed, VeloCX looks to attract some of the top regional riders from nearby Chicago, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
VeloCX gained notoriety in the region for hosting an hour long singlespeed only field in the shadow of the world class NSC Velodrome and dubbing it the Midwest Singlespeed Championship (MNSSCX). Heavy hitters in the Midwest SS scene like Brian Eppen, as well as Mark and James Lalonde have shown up to throw down on the tough circuit in and around the velodrome, in what is among the largest single-cog only USAC fields anywhere outside of Nationals. MNSSCX will be held on Sunday at the 2013 event.
VeloCX features all the USAC category races, a kids race, food and beverages vendors, an expo area, and the ever-popular inflatable bouncy castle for the kids (and racers)!
