Mical Dyck's Garmin file from Elite Women's World Championships.

Mical Dyck’s Garmin file from Elite Women’s World Championships.

“I don’t know how much I can eat, I need to see how many calories I burned,” Canadian racer and SSCXWC winner Mical Dyck laughed at the end of her race in the Elite Women’s World Championships of Cyclocross. We asked how she’d know how many calories she’d burned in the 45 minutes of racing, and she pointed out that she still had her Garmin attached to her bike, and had it turned on for the race. Not wanting to miss a chance at seeing some hard data from a World Championship, we asked for the file. Want to know what racing a World Championship looks like? Check out Mical Dyck’s stats below. Admittedly, if we were in her shoes, we wouldn’t want to upload the data to Strava, since it was pretty clear that Vos was going home with the QOM for that race.

And if you were wondering, once she checked, Dyck told us, “Haha, the ole Garmin says only 588 cal!” For those of you keeping score, that means maybe a two beer celebration. We think she deserves a bit more than that!

The Race:

Distance: 10.20 mi
Time: 51:47
Avg Speed: 11.8 mph
Elevation Gain: 61 ft
Calories: 588 C

The Timing:

Time: 51:47
Moving Time: 48:00
Elapsed Time: 51:47
Avg Speed: 11.8 mph
Avg Moving Speed: 12.8 mph
Max Speed: 28.9 mph

The Elevation:

Elevation Gain: 61 ft
Elevation Loss: 69 ft
Min Elevation: 429 ft
Max Elevation: 453 ft

The Heart Rate:

Avg HR: 167 bpm
Max HR: 181 bpm

What was interesting about the heart rate, for us, is that it spiked early, but generally remained in the same overall zone for most of the race: very little recovery, but also very few moments of high drama.
