Sam Morse (Corner Cycles) took to the course for the final race of day two of 2015 Cyclocross Nationals. Despite the challenging course, there wasn’t much separation in the huge field until after the completion of the final lap. Morse gained a gap, chased by Todd Cassan (Rally Sports Cycling Team), Craig Cozza (UPMC/Pro Bikes), James Coats (California Giant Cycling), Don Seib (Bikeman.com), and Ralf Warmuth (Team SRG).

Morse and Coats worked together to gain a lead on the field, with Cozza a few seconds back chasing back after some crashes. Cassan and Warmuth followed behind Cozza.

After recovering, Cozza motored up to the leaders, catching and immediately passing them. Coats led the chase as Morse fell slightly back, but Coats suffered from intensely painful hamstring cramps. Coats dropped back as Cozza surged ahead, Morse maintaining second.

Cozza claimed his first US Cyclocross Championship win, Morse followed in second, and Warmuth surpassed Coats in the final half lap, claiming third. Watch for Cozza’s three children, each one a talented racer on both the cyclocross and the mountain bike, who will be racing Saturday.
