As much as we at Cyclocross Magazine love racing – whether cyclocross or one of the summer “off-season” disciplines, just going out and riding bikes will always be near and dear to our hearts. And the best of the best of those pleasure cruises are the ones that mix all kinds of crazy terrain and best suit, of course, a cyclocross bike (or a blatant disregard for a road frame and tires). If you happen to live near Marin Country, California, then we’re jealous. This Sunday, June 20th, you have the opportunity to go check out the Marin County Bicycle Coalition’s Fun Ride and meet other like-minded folks.
From the MCBC website:
Are you someone who can’t make up your mind between on-road and off-road cycling? Do you like to go for long rides and are you always looking for the hardest hills to climb? Then MCBC’s Fun Ride is for you!
We’ll meet Sunday morning June 20th at the Java Hut in Fairfax at 10 am. At that time we’ll decide the route, but whatever we choose, it’s going to be a four to five hour ride with 30 miles of road, fire road and multi-use trails. And there’s going to be a lot of climbing! You’ll get a lesson on trail and road etiquette at the beginning of the ride, as we want to be bicycle ambassadors on this ride creating positive encounters with motorists and fellow trail users. We’ll all meet up at Fairfax’s Gestalt Haus at the end for a post-ride beverage.
While it is free to come on the ride, we suggest a $15 donation to MCBC, which will get you our Marin Bicycle Map, or you can join MCBC for $25 if you’re a first time member. Your contribution will be doubled thanks to an MCBC matching fund grant from the Dean Witter Foundation.
This ride is suited for a cyclocross bike or a mountain bike. The ride is not supported, so bring your cell phone, plenty of food and water and some cash.
Show up at 9:30 am, the ride leaves promptly at 10 am.
