With a subtle, directional tread and bead-to-bead puncture resistant belt, the UST-compatible Mavic Yksion Elite Allroad tires are ideal for rough roads or smoother gravel roads. Made by Hutchinson, the tires are tubeless compatible, but require sealant and are different from Hutchinson Road Tubeless tires in that they do not feature a carbon bead but rather a Kevlar bead.

The casing is made from Nylon, and features a max psi of 85. Based on our first ride, we think the 30c tires would make good commuter tires as well.

Mavic Ksyrium Pro Disc Allroad First Ride Impressions:

I rode the Allroad wheel/tire system over 70 miles of mostly gravel. Although tires were set to nearly 80 psi, I quickly deflated them to less than 60 psi, which still seemed quite high but I was unsure of the the terrain ahead. The course featured some hard packed gravel road, with lots of golf ball sized rocks, and and a bit of pavement.

The wheel system is impressive both in terms of features and in my initial ride. They’re relatively light, quite stiff, have a noticeably-quick freehub engagement, and survived many high-speed rock hits with nary a dent, burp, or wobble.

Because of the hard-packed surface with little loose dirt or sand be on the rocks, traction was really good, both in driving and cornering. It’s far less knob than I’m used to riding in California’s loose, rocky terrain, but without loose, steep climbs and embedded rock in the road, the 120 tpi, 320g Yksion Elite Allroad tires were just about right for the day’s course.
