In Boulder, Colorado, the Raleigh-Clement Cycling Team found massive success on Day One of the US Open of Cyclocross, with wins in the Men’s and Women’s Elite Race.
In the Women’s Elite Race, Caroline Mani was able to ride to the top step of the podium, with Georgia Gould coming in second and Meredith Miller taking third. The implications of Mani’s win, taking place in the same weekend of the World Cup, should not be overlooked.
Currently, Amanda Miller, with a string of consistently great results, had been surging alone in the Pro CX standings. She followed this up Sunday morning with a fifth place finish in Valkenburg, and while that guarantees her a full paid trip to the World Championship, it adds nothing to her Pro CX standings (which we’re sure she considers more than a fair trade off). With a win on Day One, and a good result for Day Two would allow for Mani to make up considerable ground on the Boulder Cycle Sport rider.
The Men’s Elite Race was a thrilling spectacle, with a trifecta of riders changing lead positions throughout the race. Allen Krughoff, Danny Summerhill and Jamey Driscoll contended with each other over an hour, with the Raleigh-Clement rider able to take the win. Summerhill took second place only two seconds back, with Krughoff in tow one second back.
The Men’s Full Results are below. As of Sunday morning, RaceRite.com used by the U.S. Open of Cyclocross does not have the Women’s results up.
