While the attention of U.S. Cyclocross was focused on Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno, National Championships were being held across Europe. The 2018 Dutch National Championships were held Saturday and Sunday in Surhuisterveen.
Lucinda Brand (Team Sunweb) had an impressive fourth-place ride at the 2017 World Championships in Bieles and has continued her roll into the new season. Over the weekend, Brand added a Dutch National Championship to her list of accomplishments. Brand beat ut a resurgent Maud Kaptheijns (Crelan-Charles) and Annemarie Worst (ERA-Circus) to take home the coveted jersey.

On the Men’s side, Mathieu van der Poel added the Dutch National Champion’s jersey to go with the European jersey he is currently sporting. He now only needs to add the World Champion’s rainbow stripes to possess all three. Lars van der Haar (Telenet Fidea Lions) finished second and Mathieu’s brother David (Corendon-Circus) took third.
