BEND, OREGON — This weekend in Bend, Oregon, Team Redline’s 16-year-old phenom Logan Owen won the overall title in the Exergy US Gran Prix of Cyclocross for elite juniors after two days of showing everyone why he is a six-time National champ.
The “high desert showdown” brought all of the top riders together for the final two races in the season-long eight race USGP of Cyclocross national series. Logan came into the series final weekend in third place, needing to win both races to outscore his opponents to take the overall series.
Logan came back on Saturday from a poor start, caught the field and then went on the attack to win by 27 seconds. On Sunday Logan got a great start and got on the wheel of his chief rival, Andrew Dillman of Bob’s Red Mill. After a quarter of a lap Logan took the lead, pressing his advantage on the dry dusty course. Logan’s ability to “out corner” his opponents on the twisty turning course was apparent on Saturday, and even more so watching Logan get out front and ride smoothly on Sunday. In the last 500 meters on Sunday Logan had an advantage of 25 seconds allowing him to savor his victory with a big smile and “high fives” to friends and fans.
Logan will be heading off to Europe with Geoff Proctor’s US Euro ’Cross camp in Belgium this Thursday. He joins all of the other top American juniors in his quest to be selected for the US Cyclocross world’s team.
Logan Owen is a six time USA national champion in cyclocross and races for Team Redline on the new Redline Conquest carbon team. Team Redline could not do this alone, and wishes to thank our sponsors: FSA Components, Challenge tires, Kool Stop Brake pads, XLC components, Pryme protective wear, and SRAM drivetrain.
