Laura Van Gilder (Mellow Mushroom) added to her ever-growing legend by winning the Masters 55-59 race at the 2018 Masters World Championships in Mol, Belgium on Friday.
Van Gilder took home the win by finishing over a minute ahead of Belgium’s Brenda Kaczmarcyzk (Heylen KZLWC).
Other U.S. finishers were Lisa Fitzgerald (Kuhl) in sixth and Teresa Jarzemkoski (Shawnee).
This year marks the first year that Masters riders with UCI points are permitted to race at Masters Worlds. With 89 UCI points—many earned by finishing on podiums at Nittany Lion Cross and HPCX—Van Gilder came in right under the maximum 100 allowed by the new UCI rules.
