In a cruel twist of fate, race favorite and leader on the last lap, Maxx Chance (EVOL DevoElite Racing) suffered a mechanical just feet from the finish. Lance Haidet (Clement Pro Cycling) won a very thrilling race to take the 2017 U23 Men’s National Championship. The top four racer all finished within eight seconds of each other. Gage Hecht (Alpha Bicycle Co.- Vista Subaru) finished six seconds back for second place. Maxx Chance salvaged a third place, just barely nicking Brannan Fix (Alpha Bicycle Co.- Vista Subaru), both riders credited with the same time.
