You might have seen the colorful orange kicks on Ben Berden and pink version on Nicole Duke during the last few seasons. Those eye-catching shoes are Lake Cycling’s MX331 Cross shoes, the first cyclocross-oriented shoe we’ve seen in recent years, launched at Sea Otter two years ago. Although other shoe companies like Mavic now have cyclocross-oriented shoes as well, Lake Cycling has been working hard behind the scenes to update and expand its offering for the frequently-dismounting cyclist.
Based on feedback from Duke and other riders, the shoe company has created a warmer, more weather-resistant version of its $399 MX331 Cross shoe, the upcoming MX332 Supercross model. This MX332 offers less mesh than the MX331 Cross, and adds a second Boa dial to customize fit. The sole remains a stiff, carbon fiber sole with natural rubber lugs.
Can’t spend four hundos on shoes, or want more color options? Lake Cycling also is launching the MX237 Supercross shoe. The cyclocross shoe, expected to be around $289, features an Helcor-treated leather that boasts abrasion resistance and breathability. The shoe will come in two stock colors: Black/Pink and Black/Blue/Gold.
For the cyclocrosser who prioritizes color coordination (before putting on the coat of first-lap mud), the MX237 Supercross also offers customized colors. The graphics on the side of the shoe, as well as the tongue and heel grip can be customized to feature your team’s colors, or your favorite colors.
Lake proudly boasts that its shoe size options fit nearly every person and every foot, unless you are Boban Marjonovic, with sizes from 38 to 50, with many half sizes available, and a wide width as well.
Stay tuned as we hope to get our hands on an early set of these cyclocross-oriented shoes.
