When the riders vying for the US Cup-CX overall prize headed to Baltimore on Saturday, three women—Kaitie Keough (Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com), Maghalie Rochette (Clif Pro Team) and Emma White (Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com)—were tied in the standings. There was a sense the two days at Charm City Cross could help provide some clarity in the chase for the $10,000 prize.
Keough did her part to help provide that clarity. She won both races over the weekend to grab a 15-point advantage over her teammate Emma White, who finished 2nd on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday.

Rochette bounced back from a tough 11th-place finish on Saturday to finish 2nd on Sunday. Rochette’s weekend highlights the sometimes cruel nature of the winner-take-all format of the US Cup-CX, but it also serves as a cautionary tale for the series leaders heading into the last three races in Cincinnati and Louisville—one mechanical, one bad race can have a steep cost.
Four of the seven races in the US Cup-CX series are in the books. The next two races will be in Cincinnati October 28 and 29, and the series finishes on Saturday, November 4 at the Derby City Cup in Louisville.
