When young riders attend Geoff Proctor's Montana Cross Camp for the first time, the amount of running the new USA Cycling Cyclocross Performance Consultant has his campers do may seem a bit excessive. However, at next year's camp, Proctor will need to do little more than show the young U.S. ’cross stars a video of Sunday's Telenet UCI World Cup in Bogense, Denmark to demonstrate the importance of being able to run at intensity for long stretches.

Riders faced several dismounts and extended periods of running up and down the seawall looming over the Bogense course. It was one of those races where riders who have made a commitment to off-the-bike training benefitted from their work.

Bogense is a seaside town on the north side of the Danish island of Funen. The town dates back to the 12th century and serves as a popular tourist destination. As seen at Koksijde, the fall weather can bring wind and waves to the seashore, so on Sunday the tourism crowd was likely limited to cyclocross aficionados. Regardless, the sea, town and mud made for a visual spectacle.
