Marianne Vos (Rabobank-Giant) won the Internationale Centrumcross today in Surhuisterveen for the second time. The world champion crossed the finish line alone after a muddy race, half a minute ahead of British racer Helen Wyman (Kona). Just behind Wyman was Dutch road racer Anna van Breggen, who incredibly has only raced two cyclocross races this season. Perhaps most impressive, however, was 15-year-old Yara Kastelijn, who finished in fourth place, just over twenty seconds off the podium. American Christine Vardaros finished 13th after overcoming a poor start.
“I started racing Cyclocross a bit later in the season,” said Vos. “So I could really use this race to keep my pace up for the coming weeks.” This weekend the Elite Women’s field will travel to Italy for the World Cup race in Rome, on Sunday.
