Proving that his day-one performance was not a flash in the pan, Stephen Hyde (Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) was able to distance himself from Jeremy Powers (Aspire Racing) late in the race on day two of the Derby City Cup in Louisville, KY.

The Elite Women's race played out similar to day one's racing, with Katie Compton (Trek Factory Racing) escaping early with Kaitie Antonneau (Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) and Amanda Miller (Boulder Cyclesport/YogaGLO). The trio stuck together until lap number four, in which Compton dispatched her lead group companions.

Compton would stay away solo, and winning with a healthy gap. Antonneau would finish in second, 21 seconds behind, and in a late race move, Caroline Mani (Raleigh-Clement) would overtake Miller for the final podium spot.

The Elite Men's race saw Hyde take the holeshot, and a big group of ten racers make the initial selection.

In what may be a first for UCI cyclocross racing, the lead group had to navigate a unique course hazard—a corgi named Simon.

With the pack safely around Simon, Powers upped the pace, causing a small split that also contained Danny Summerhill (Maxxis-Shimano) and Curtis White (Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com).

Hyde and Jamey Driscoll (Raleigh-Clement) would join the lead group in short order, increasing its numbers to five. White would attack from the group, opening an eight second gap. Powers would lead the chase, and while catching White, use his counterattack to make the final selection of him and Hyde.

With Powers and Hyde clear, it looked to be a sprint finish, similar to day one's finale, but it wasn't meant to be. Hyde would distance a seemingly-gassed Powers and win by a safe margin, completing his sweep of the Derby City Cup Weekend.
