Hermans and Rombouts Take the Wins in the U23 and Juniors Races at 2015 GP Sven Nys

U23 Telenet Fidea Sweep

BAAL, Belgium – Telenet Fidea swept the podium in the U23 race at the 2015 GP Sven Nys.

Quinten Hermans looked to be poised to solo to victory but fatigue set in during the latter half of the race and Hermans was joined by his teammate Thijs Aerts.

“The first half of the race I felt very strong, but suddenly disappeared all the strength in my body,” said Hermans. “I felt nauseous and had little power in the legs. No idea why.”

With the series lead on the line the younger Aerts worked to help Hermans pace to the finish, allowing Hermans the victory. Hermans now leads the series by a mere 16 seconds ahead of Dan Hoeyberghs (BKCP-Corendon) with one race remaining.

“As a unit, we can certainly do something,” said Aerts

Finishing off the final podium spot was Telenet Fidea rider Nicolas Cleppe.

Gavin Haley was the sole American in the race but was unable to finish.

Late Crash Shuffles the Deck in Juniors Race

In the juniors race Seppe Rombouts (Acrog – Balen Bc) took the win after dueling with Jarno Liessens (Enertherm-BKCP) before Liessens crashed in the penultimate lap giving Rombouts the space he needed to ride to victory.

Tijl Pauwels (Lares – Doltcini Cycling Team) benefited by taking second place with teammate Arno Debier finishing third. A recovered Liessens finished fifth for the day.

Pleased with his finish Pauwles said, “Seppe was too strong today. It also had no desire to go on this tour around your speed, because then you blow yourself up. In the battle for second place with my teammate Arno I had the feeling that I have everything under had control.”

American rider Michael Owens had a good day finishing on the lead lap in 21st place.
