Fezzari was on hand at the 2016 Sea Otter Classic showing off its new bike called the Shafer GR or Gravel Road.
Fezzari may not be a household name to everyone, but we’ve reviewed the company’s Fore CYX disc cyclocross model online after featuring the review in issue 27. The Utah-based brand offers direct-to-consumer bikes with a number of options to customize the chosen model both in component spec and for items related to fit.
Fezzari is a firm believer in tubeless with wheel options on many of their bikes that are well-suited for those wanting to skip tubes and tubulars all together. And with the Shafer, the tubeless preference continues, the new bike rolling on Mavic Ksyrium Allroad Disc wheels wrapped in Schwalbe’s G-One gravel tire.
As for the Shafer’s frame, it is constructed of what Fezzari calls their XR6 carbon. The frame features rack and fender mounts as well as flat mount disc brake mounts and a 142 x 12mm thru axle rear end. Up front, the Shafer features a carbon, tapered fork with a 12mm thru axle. While the stock tires are a nice choice, options abound as the Shafer can accommodate up to a 40mm tire. The frame’s geometry is, as Fezzari describes it, “low, slack and long” and setup for long days in the saddle.
The Shafer is built with Shimano’s workhorse 105 group including the 105-level hydraulic disc brakes from the Japanese component maker. Fezzari specs it’s own carbon seatpost topped with a Prologo saddle and it’s own alloy stem and carbon bar.
The new Shafer GR retails for $3,199 USD direct, including Fezzari’s 23-point custom setup. Availability is to be announced.
