Thinking about the great racing to come this week at the Cyclocross National Championships in Asheville also has us thinking about the gear that folks will be riding on their way to the title. Last year in Austin we saw some interesting bikes and some tried and trued set-ups that propelled their pilots to the podium's top step and the title of National Champion.

We have a hard time believing this will be the first Cyclocross National Championships in decades that won’t feature a Redline-sponsored cyclocross athlete. Sadly, at this year’s Interbike, the company that pioneered the mass-produced cyclocross bike is no longer sending any adult cyclocross, commuter or mountain bicycles—only BMX bikes.

So on that sad note, we take a look at Justin Lindine’s “prototype” Redline carbon Conquest singlespeed he rode to victory last year in Austin. This year, Lindine, coming back from injury, will not be defending his title. That should make at least one racer happy.
