Cyclocross Racers Claim Medals in Winter Park, Colorado
Last week was the 2021 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championship. Racers from all categories showed up to take on the challenge.
Of course, some top cyclocrossers traded in their skinny knobbies for fatter rubber and suspension to take home some hardware.
Here are some of the top cyclocross racers who podiumed in Winter Park, Colorado.
Erin Huck, First Place XC Pro Women
Former US Open of Cyclocross Pro Women Gold medalist, Erin Huck, took another gold medal in the XC Pro Women, and claims the stats and stripes jersey.
Stephan Davoust, Second Place XC Pro Men
After getting fourth place during the 2019 Cyclocross National Championships Singlespeed Men, Stephan Davoust climbed the ranks to secure second place for XC Pro Men at Mountain Bike Nationals.
Margell Abel, Third Place XC Master Women 50-54
Third place winner of 2012 UCI Masters Cyclocross World Championship womens 40-44 race, Margell Abel finished third during the XC Masters Women 50-54.
George Smith, Third Place XC Master Men 65-69
2019 Cyclocross National Championships Masters Men 65-69 victor George Smith showed up for the XC Master Men 65-69 and took home the bronze medal.
Maurine Sweeney, First Place XC Master Women 70-74
2016 Masters Cyclocross World Championships Women 65-69 champion Maurine Sweeney takes another gold medal home.
Jim Hoffmeister, Second Place XC Master Men 75-79
Bronze Medalist of the 2016 USA Cycling Cylocross National Championships Men’s 70-74, Jim Hoffmeister, took silver during the XC Masters Men 75-79.
Victor Sheldon, First Place XC Master Men 55-59 & Emilio Cervantes, Third Place XC Master Men 55-59
Victor Sheldon, 2016 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships Men’s 50-54 champion, took the trip down to Colorado to get gold for the XC Master Men 55-59. Emilio Cervantes, 2018 Cyclocross National Championships Masters 55-59 champion, managed to get bronze and was able to podium with Victor Sheldon.
Rebecca Gross, First Place XC Cat 1/2 Women 40-44
2012 UCI Master’s Cyclocross World Championships Masters Women 30-34 Champion, Rebecca Gross took first place for the XC Cat 1/2 Women 40-44.
Travis Brown, Second Place XC Cat 1/2 Men 50-54
Living legend Travis Brown, the silver medalist of the 2007 Cyclocross National Championships Singlespeed, collected another silver medal from the XC Cat 1/2 Men 50-54.
Caleb Swartz, Second Place XC Men U23
Caleb Swartz, two-time champion of the Collegiate Varsity Men 2019 Cyclocross National Championships, took home silver from the XC Men U23.
Michaela Thompson, Third Place XC Women U23
Silver Medalist of the 2019 Cyclocross National Championships, Michaela Thompson, won bronze for the XC Women U23.
Kira Mullins, First Place STXC JR Women 11-14
Champion of the 2019 Cyclocross National Championships Junior Women 11-12, Kira Mullins took another jersey with a first again in the STXC JR Women 11-14.
George Frazier, Third Place STXC JR Men 11-14
George Frazier, 2018 Cyclocross National Championships Junior Men 11-12 gold medalist, won the bronze medal for the STXC JR Men 11-14.
Alexandria Beard, First Place XC JR W 11-12
Bronze medalist of the 2019 Cyclocross National Championships Junior Women 11-12, Alexandria Beard upped her game and finished first during the XC JR W 11-12.
