Blustery winds made construction of the ClifBar CrossVegas course a challenge at the Desert Breeze Soccer Complex yesterday, and racers of the 2013 event are sure to meet additional challenges themselves with the heat course features, including a new bermed turn, giant flyover, barriers and sandy short man-made stairs.

Wheeler and Dealer racer Daniel Curtin previewed the course yesterday. Speaking with workers on site, Curtin reported that the 30 mph gusts rendered the use of snow fencing challenging, as the winds were blowing over metal crowd barriers when covered. The plan was to finish course construction once the winds died down, which meant much of the work delayed to this morning, the day of the event.

Construction of a new flyover and a bermed turn continued in the late afternoon hours despite the blustery conditions. The course mostly follows the same layout as last year, with a few twists and turns, including the berm (pictured) and a new second flyover. The course will be open for pre-riding on Wednesday at 3:30 pm according to CrossVegas officials.
