Outside of the bike industry, there aren’t many people that race for the benefit of their employers, and even less that can do it as a contribution to the greater good. Lenore Pipes, a researcher with the Riethman Laboratory at The Wistar Institute, lives a double life. Racing on the weekends for the Wistar Institute and working in the lab during the week, Pipes has brought her two passions together, using her ’cross racing to raise awareness of, and money for, cancer research.
As part of her fundraising efforts, Pipes has put together a Cyclocross Movie Night this Sunday, Nov. 14, at 6PM at Cadence Cycling Center, located at 4323 Main St. Philadelphia, PA. The showing will include the ’cross classic Pure Sweet Hell and the 9 Ball Diaries. Popcorn and drinks will be served. Jeremy Powers, star of Behind the Barriers, is rumored to be filming an introductory clip for the movie night and prizes have been donated by none other than current US National Champion, Tim Johnson, including a 9 Ball Diaries DVD signed by the entire Cannondale prepared by Cyclocrossworld.com Team. The showing is a fundraiser for the Lenore Pipes Racing for Cancer Research Fund at the Wistar Institute, and 100% of the proceeds will go towards supporting the Wistar laboratories and researchers trying to find a cure for cancer. There is a suggested donation of $10 for entry into the show.
Cyclocross Movie Night is made possible by Cadence Cycling, Echappe Equipment, Bell’s Bike Shop, Girl Bike Dog, Rothera Cycling Caps, November Bicycles, Jeremy Powers, Tim Johnson, and Cannondale prepared by Cyclocrossworld.com, and Brian Vernor.
If you can’t attend but would like to get involved and/or would like to know more about my mission to raise $10,000 for Wistar cancer research, please visit Lenore’s website.
