2009 Junior Cyclocross National Champion Cody Kaiser became world famous after Cyclocross Magazine’s video of him no-pedal hopping up a flight of stairs at the 2014 Boulder Nationals went viral. Two years ago, Kaiser swapped his strawberries for grapes in building his LangeTwins program. Now Kaiser, coming off a top-ten finish at the 2016 Nationals, is entering his third season as a one-racer program and has his sights set on this weekend’s races in Rochester and the U.S. World Cups. Details below.
Cody Kaiser and LangeTwins to Begin Third Season in Rochester
During the summer of ‘14, Kaiser had the idea to create a program designed to help promote sponsors and grow the sport in a new, fresh way. In contrast to building a large multi-rider team, a solo-rider effort was tasked with establishing a foundation for a sustainable race program with a very direct focus. With the support and partnership of LangeTwins and additional sponsors, all parties are excited to kick off the third season.
“Since starting the team, I’ve been looking at it as a business. Most businesses see big growth and success in years 3-5. So moving into this year, I am pretty stoked to see what’s ahead. Ending last season with a few top 5s and a top ten at Nationals was a big turning point for me in the professional ranks. The energy is growing and it’s a great feeling.” –Cody Kaiser
Over the last two seasons, LangeTwins has seen encouraging growth in the demand for their family wines in the local market due to their support of the sport and the growth is spreading nationally.
“With each year, our sustainable family winery grows more connected to the cyclocross and cycling community in general. Our partnership with Cody is an important aspect of that strengthening involvement with promoting a healthy, active lifestyle alongside our estate wines! We’re excited to watch Cody give it his all this ’cross season– Zinfandel hand-ups anyone?” –Joe Lange
This upcoming season has thirteen weekends of racing on the road plus a few more at home for Kaiser in Northern California. With plans to kick off the season with a bang at both North American World Cups and continue with a full UCI calendar in the States, things are set to be action packed.
Kaiser will be piloting the new 2017 Specialized CruX with the race proven SRAM Force 1 groupset.
“With SRAM Force 1, I have everything I need and nothing I don’t. I spend the majority of the season on the 42t chain ring with an 11-32 cassette, but the groupset allows for infinite variations, so if I’m ever looking for a little more on either side of the range, a quick ring swap and I’m ready to go.” -Kaiser
Continuing sponsorship along with LangeTwins Family Winery and Vineyards will be Specialized Bicycles, Greenware, SRAM, Zipp, Kinetic Cycles, Oakley and Crank Brothers.
John Kittredge from Greenware had this to say. ”Greenware is proud to sponsor Cody again for the 2016-17 season. Ever since meeting The Kid at the 2010 World Cyclocross Championships in St. Wendel, Germany I have felt compelled and honored to support his drive to succeed. Cody is a wonderful ambassador to cycling who loves to share his expertise and love of the sport – no doubt we are grateful to have such a character wear our brand.”
New for 2016, Kaiser brings on long-time cyclocross supporter, Vermarc, for clothing.
